For the nature or the approach of the nature, several sites are interesting to visit near LONGUYON. The places proposed below are not certainly the only ones to deserve interest. Nevertheless, it are the ones, which to my knowledge, are able to please all the nature lovers.
The forest of WARPHEMONT, situated near the village of PILLON, except the visit of the cannon of DUZEY, has arrowed roads which will make you discover the nature in forest and sometimes historic or biological curiosities. The departure of these various roads is situated in the site of the cannon of DUZEY.
The ponds of “HAUTS FOURNEAUX”, near the village of BILLY-LES-MANGIENNES. This set ponds, classified " ecological reserve, wet zone of major importance ", nested in the middle of a forest zone, is not however opened to the visit, but roads in undergrowth surrounding will be convenient to your walks.
The pond of ROMAGNE-SOUS-LES-CÔTES, also classified " wet zone of major importance ", is not visible surrounding roads, but it is rich in birds and in insects of any sorts. With a little luck, you can see “buzzards pattues”, often present.
The ornithological look-out post of BILLY-LES-MANGIENNES, situated road of the ponds of “HAUTS FOURNEAUX”, will allow you during the months of winter, to look at the numerous ash cranes which winter and feed in the surrounding fields. It is often individuals' hundreds which are there observable.
The limestone lawn of CHARENCY-VEZIN. This lawn, said " the coast of Urbul " is a natural site of a big biological interest, dominating the valley of Chiers. About twenty sorts of orchids live on the coast of Urbul, from which some are protected because very rare. You can see there also numerous sorts of butterflies and crickets. A marked out path will allow you to discover all these wealth.
The pebble Saint-Martin is situated in the forest of Belchêne, to the right of the road connecting LONGUYON to CONSTANTINE. According to the local legend, in 4th century, Saint-Martin on visit in the region, stopped near a sacred fountain where the inhabitants came to like idols. St Martin, almost fell of horse because the left hoof of the animal had sunk into the worshipped rock; it struck that this former Gallic altar of its stick, leaving to it a deep mark which, since, is always performed with water of which the property would be to cure the diseases of eyes. You can go to it by an arrowed road the departure of which is situated in the car park, 500 metres after the exit of LONGUYON in the direction of ETAIN.
