It is the IIIth Army which delivered the fights around LONGUYON. It was commanded, by the General RUFFEY, with as Leader of Staff, the General GROSSETTI.

It understood three armed forces:
- The 4th Armed force with the General BOELLE and 2 divisions: 7 and 8th.
- The 5th Armed force with the General BROCHIN and 2 divisions; 9 and 10th.
- The 6th Armed force with the General SARRAIL and 3 divisions; 12, 42 and 40th.

A group of spare division, the 3rd and a division of cavalry, the 7th.

Further to the fights, further to the destructions and further to the massacres committed in the city, this one was recognized " martyred city ", and as such, it received the Croix de guerre on July 30th, 1920, then the Cross of chevalier of the Legion of Honnour on August 21st, 1930.
